In 2003, Varela Productions Multimedia joined forces with La Compañía Teatral de Blanca Marsillach (The Blanca Marsillach Theatre Company), to adapt, produce and develop What the night is for by dramatist Michael Weller. Encouraged by their success, and public acclaim, they set out to produce British author John Godber's play April in Paris, adapted and directed by Ana Diosdado. They recently toured Spain with excellent results performing the play Kingdom of Earth by master playwright Tennessee Williams adapted by Elise Varela and Blanca Marsillach. Other recent productions include Darío Fó's The Open Couple, and Elise Varela’s debut as playwright, Searching for Hilary, starring Blanca Marsillach.
In additional to their production and distribution company they have produced, directed and written an Educational Program as well as a Program for Battered Women, both sponsored and endorsed by the Community of Madrid, in hopes that women and children can benefit from the knowledge, discipline and confidence these theatre workshops provide.
In 2008, Blanca Marsillach and Elise Varela, were the first women in Spanish history to renovate and rename a long-standing theatre located in the centre of Madrid after Spanish dramatist Adolfo Marsillach. The Theatre Figaro-Adolfo Marsillach, is sited at a privileged location in the Historical Centre of the City of Madrid; meters away from a number of monuments and tourist attractions. This building has been valued as one of the only examples of rationalist architecture in Madrid and has become one of the most popular theatres in the centre of Madrid under their management.
Varela-Marsillach strongly supports quality productions, striving
to offer the audience with an excellent theatrical performance in the shape
of works that illustrate what they understand to be theatre at its purest.
They firmly believe in promoting theatre extensively in the media by generating
features and interviews on television, radio and in the press
